Description
The task is a critical way for architects to dig up owner's real requirements and intents. It is an iterative requirement gathering. Particularly, if the owner has insufficient knowledge of architecture design and has difficulty articulating his expectations, the communication becomes more critical and frequent. In commission projects, communication with the owner occurs many times throughout the whole lifecycle of architecture design, but the content and frequency may vary from phase to phase. In bidding projects, when and what to communicate in each stage is regulated.
Media current used by architects to convey design ideas during the communication are non-text, including sketches, mass models; JPG pictures created using Sketchup, and rendered images. But these are not as well received by owners as real photos of precedents. Real photos are effective in explaining details of design ideas, such as the intersection of architecture faces and exterior materials. In addition to the exterior and shape, during this stage the owner also stresses on the functions he wants, for which discussions based on 2D plans are held.
Why Pain?
Architects feel it a pain when it is hard to reach the consensus on design with the owner and when both sides are trying to add more thoughts into the design.
